Peebles Island

To start off our journey of our summer on the hudson river we took off to Peebles Island in Waterford. NY.  It was an unusual day for me because I typically don't spend my days outdoors. It is an outstanding park with a lot of natural beauty. I learned that although we might just see the bottom of a body of water as sand, it is actually another organism's ecosystem. A rock isn't just a rock and leaf isn't just a leaf. Under those rocks and boulders in the picture above contain algae which creatures and larvae live off of. Also in the picture above are river dams. Dams are important because they store water, help with energy production, and increase the hydraulic head. Dams can be dangerous therefore there are buoy's located nearby to warn sailors and boats not to go past the buoy.
