Voyage on the Hudson

Today was a very relaxing a soothing day compared to most. We traveled to Saugerties to hop on another cozy pontoon boat and travel North down the Hudson River. This trip was still enjoyable but nothing compared to Lake George. The Hudson River isn’t nearly as clean and clear as Lake George was and the weather today was not on our side for the majority of the trip. Along the way I noticed some pretty cool things that I wouldn’t get to see by any other form of transportation. I got to see some lighthouses, one of which was a bed and breakfast that I would like to visit someday. I also saw multiple bald eagles, which was awesome seeing how I don’t think I ever saw one before or at least ever noticed what it was. I got to see the historic site of Olana from the water, which Frederick Church would base his landscape paintings off of. We also came across something that I have never experienced before, the locks. I never even knew what a lock was until today or how significant they were. If it wasn’t for the lock there would be no way to travel on the Hudson River safely because of the dam nearby. It was quite the experience having to attach the boat to the pole as we rose up about 15 feet until we were let out to explore some more. The only downfall to the lock that I noticed was what we came across on our way back through the lock. It takes a lot of time to go through the lock which keeps boats waiting a long time to achieve their destination point. I think there should be another alternative to traveling down the Hudson but unfortunately I do not think that will ever happen.
