Today
was a rather easy yet interesting day. We had a lab day with Toby where we
looked at microorganisms that we found at Peebles Island and from the dredge in
Lake George. We found a tiny bug that was still alive and I thought that was
really cool. Unfortunately the little bug I brought back died and I didn’t get
to examine him. We also learned the seriousness of bottled water. Most bottled
water is just tap water and doesn’t come from a spring like they say it does. People
forget to recycle the plastic bottle, which adds more pollution and damage to
our planet. We took an ecosystem quiz and with the amount of energy we use and
products we buy the results said that we would need 5 and a half earth’s for it
to never run out of resources. After lunch we went to the Rensselaer County
Historical Society. There we got to pick our artifact that we are using for our
final project. Before that we did an exercise that showed us 50 different ways
to describe a big mac box. We then had to do it with another object and mine
was a water bottle. Describing a water bottle in detail is harder than you can
imagine. We then looked at exhibits that were shown in the museum. The front
parlor rooms were gorgeous and you could tell someone extremely wealthy lived
there. My favorite picture hanging in the museum was the picture of what
Pinewoods Cemetery was supposed to become. Instead, it is now one of the top
ten haunted cemeteries in the country. I really enjoyed our tour guide and I am
looking forward to going back to do research with her for my project.
